تأسست جامعة 6 أكتوبر عام 1996 ، وهي مؤسسة خاصة للتعليم العالي تقع في المناطق الحضرية للمدينة المتوسطة بمدينة 6 أكتوبر (يبلغ عدد سكانها 250.000-499.999 نسمة) ، الجيزة. معترف بها رسميًا من قبل وزارة التعليم العالي في مصر ، تعد جامعة 6 أكتوبر (O6U) مؤسسة تعليمية مصرية كبيرة مختلطة للتعليم العالي. تقدم جامعة 6 أكتوبر (O6U) دورات وبرامج تؤدي إلى الحصول على درجات علمية معترف بها رسميًا مثل درجة البكالوريوس ودرجات الماجستير ودرجات الدكتوراه في العديد من مجالات الدراسة. تتبع مؤسسة التعليم العالي المصرية هذه ، البالغة من العمر 24 عامًا ، سياسة قبول انتقائية تستند إلى امتحانات القبول والسجل الأكاديمي السابق للطلاب ودرجاتهم.
